Hi! I’m Katie and I’m a slightly overweight 16 year old with good intentions to feel comfortable in my own skin. I’ve moved around quite a lot and know what it’s like to be judged instantly for your appearance.
I’m a type 1 diabetic. Just to clarify, there’s the kind of diabetes related to “fat” people, and there’s the kind that is genetic. I got stuck with the genetic kind. Most people don’t know that there are various types- only 5% of diabetics are type 1, and the media frequently links diabetes to obesity and sugar. Unfortunately, there are no known cures for this chronic illness. (my pancreas has basically “died” and just sits in my body without producing anything.) I have to stay alive by taking five shots and eight finger pricks a day. It’s the only way my body can function.
I’m 5 feet 3 inches or so and weigh around 145 pounds. My goal is to loose the unnecessary fat on my body and begin to show some muscle. I don’d care what weight I am at when I accomplish this- I just want to feel proud of myself and gain body image confidence.
